Poor neglected blog.. · Mar 27, 11:00 PM by Simon Mackie

Ok, Ok, so PhotographyJam has been somewhat neglected recently. New posts will be coming soon. But first a question for everyone toting Canon equipment. Which is better as a walkaround “standard” lens: the Canon 17-40 f/4 L, or the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8?

  1. Can I throw another into the mix? I know…I’m not really answering your question. I was thinking about getting the 17-40 f/4 L, and then Canon released the 24-105 f/4 L IS lens. I decided to try and fell it love with it. It’s got great range and the IS is great. Of course, if you don’t need the extra range beyond 40 or 50 mm, then ignore what I said. :-)

  2. Thanks Otto. I tend to take a lot of landscapes on a 350D, so I’m looking for a zoom that goes fairly wide. I’m looking to buy a couple of new lenses, and I think my lens collection will probably end up like this: 10-22, (either the Canon 17-40 or the Tamron, or maybe something else?), 50 f/1.8, 70-200 L, 100 mm macro
