Photography competitions: beware the fine print · Aug 9, 08:39 PM by Simon Mackie
If you’re thinking of entering a photographic competition, pause before entering and check out the terms and conditions. Many competitions require yout to give rights to your photograph to the contest holder as a condition of entry, even if you are not the winner. This kind of “rights grab” is a pretty shady practice if you ask me – it means that the contest holder can use your images for whatever they please, and possibly even resell them at a later date – leaving the contest holder with a nice library of images to use how they please. So before entering, please check out the fine print.
